Paul Otis brings over 20 years of private boarding school experience to his role as Head of School, combining deep expertise in education with a genuine passion for working with student-athletes.

Throughout his career at Squaw Valley Academy and Lake Tahoe Preparatory School, Paul has served in multiple leadership capacities including biology teacher, Dean of Students, and Assistant Head of School. His diverse experience has given him a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to create an environment where students can excel both academically and athletically. Paul has worked extensively with student-athletes, including downhill skiers and soccer players, helping them navigate the unique challenges of balancing rigorous training schedules with academic excellence.

Beyond the classroom, Paul is an accomplished outdoor educator and guide. He has served as a ski and snowboard guide and rock climbing instructor, bringing technical expertise and safety leadership to adventurous pursuits. A lifelong climbing athlete with 30 years of experience on the rock, Paul understands the dedication, discipline, and mental toughness required to excel in competitive athletics—qualities that translate directly to hockey.

A resident of the Sierra Nevada mountains since 1999, Paul has deep roots in the Tahoe community and embraces the mountain lifestyle year-round. When he’s not at school, you’ll likely find him cross-country skate skiing through the winter landscape or exploring vertical terrain on nearby granite walls.

Paul is the proud father of two children, Aaron and Amy, and brings that parental perspective to his work with students every day. He is excited and inspired by the hockey program and looks forward to supporting each player’s journey toward their goals on the ice and beyond.
